Crassula Blue Bird is a popular succulent with distinctive, fleshy, blue-grey foliage (often tipped with shades of red) and a compact growth habit. Blue Bird is a cultivar of the Crassula Ovata species and is also referred to as Jade plant. Unlike most Jade plants, which are typically green, Crassula Blue Bird has a unique colouration that really sets it apart!

This cultivar is a hybrid between the Crassula Arborescens and Crassula Ovata.

 

CARE AND GROWTH:

Like most succulents, Crassula Blue Bird prefer a position in full sun but can tolerate semi-shade. A well-draining soil is essential to prevent overwatering. Succulents can store water in their leaves, meaning overwatering can lead to root rot. Water when the soil is completely dry. During Winter, when the plant goes dormant, watering once or twice a month will suffice but during its growing season (Spring and Summer), once a week is ideal. If leaves appear wrinkled and deflated, this is a sign that the plant needs more water. Blue Bird will typically grow in a round, clumping shape.

Fertilise in Spring with a slow-release fertiliser. To maintain its compact shape and encourage bushier growth, prune during the warmer months.
