Syzygium Resilience Lilly Pilly is a popular Australian native, mostly used for hedging and screening. It is fast growing and resilient to many pests and diseases that plague other Lilly Pillies, which is where it gets its name. It has beautiful glossy green foliage that is tipped with reddish/bronze new growth. White, fluffy flowers and followed by edible pink berries in Spring. Prune once a year to keep to your desired height.
CARE AND GROWTH:
- Light:
Syzygium Resilience Lilly Pilly generally prefers full sun to partial shade. Ensure that the plant receives adequate sunlight for healthy growth and to promote flowering and fruiting.
2. Soil:
A well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter will help your Syzygium Resilience Lilly Pilly flourish! While they can tolerate various soil types, good drainage is crucial to prevent waterlogged conditions.
3. Watering:
Water regularly to help establish a strong root system. Once established, they are generally drought-tolerant, but regular watering during dry periods is beneficial. Avoid overwatering, as they can be susceptible to root rot in waterlogged conditions. Increase watering on hot or windy days.
4. Mulching:
Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant to help retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Keep the mulch away from the trunk to prevent stem rot.
- Pruning:
Prune Syzygium as needed to shape the plant, remove dead or diseased branches, and maintain the desired size. Regular pruning can help promote bushiness and control the plant’s shape. Avoid heavy pruning right after planting to allow the plant to establish its roots.
- Fertilization:
Fertilize Syzygium Resilience Lilly Pilly in the spring and early summer with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer.
- Pest and Disease Control:
Keep an eye out for pests like aphids, scale insects, and caterpillars. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil. Syzygium Resilience Lilly Pilly is generally resistant to many diseases but monitor for issues like leaf spot.
