Star Jasmine Trachelospermum Jasminoides is a very popular plant that can be grown as a ground cover, hedge or a climbing vine. It has glossy, dark green leaves that grow in pairs opposite each other on the stem. The Star Jasmine is prized for its fragrant, star-shaped white flowers which appear in clusters from late Spring to early Summer. In favourable conditions, they may also flower sporadically throughout the year.
CARE AND GROWTH:
Star Jasmine Trachelospermum Jasminoides prefer a position in full sun to part shade. To encourage abundant flowering, ensure your plants are receiving enough sunlight, around 4-6 hours of direct light each day. Use a well-draining soil mix to ensure your plants do not become waterlogged. Water frequently during the establishment period (around 12 weeks) and reduce watering after as they will become more drought tolerant.
Star Jasmine Trachelospermum Jasminoides respond very well to pruning. Pruning is vital to encourage bushier growth, and this is best done during the warmer months, after flowering. Fertilise in Spring with a slow-release fertiliser. This will help your plants grow faster, maintain their lush foliage and encourage lots of flowers!
A layer of mulch around the base of the plants is a great option for suppressing weeds and regulating soil temperature.
