Rhaphiolepis Indica Snow Maiden is a dwarf, evergreen shrub with shiny, dark green leaves and fragrant, small, white flowers. It develops red/coppery new growth on the tips of the leaves which adds a splash of colour to any space. It is a hardy plant with an upright growing habit, great for small hedges or borders. To maintain vibrant foliage and encourage abundant flowering, read our care guide below.
CARE AND GROWTH:
Rhaphiolepis Indica Snow Maiden thrives best in full sun or part shade. It can adapt to various growing conditions and needs to be planted in well-draining soil. Water frequently during the establishment period, approximately 12 weeks after planting. After this, the Snow Maiden becomes somewhat drought tolerant. It is essential to increase watering on hot or windy days.
Fertilise in Spring with a slow-release fertiliser. Do not fertiliser during Winter. Pruning once or twice a year will ensure your Rhaphiolepis Indica Snow Maiden keeps its compact shape. It is best to prune during Spring, ideally after flowering. Remember to prune any dead or damaged branches.
Rhaphiolepis Snow Maiden typically flowers in Winter and Spring.
PLANTING IDEAS:
Low Hedge/Border: Rhaphiolepis Indica Snow Maiden can reach a maximum height of approximately 80-90cm. This makes it ideal for use as a low hedge or border plant. You can pair it with larger hedges such as Sweet Viburnum or Photinia Red Robin or plant ground covers in front such as Trachelospermum Tricolour or Gardenia Radicans.
Pots/Containers: Rhaphiolepis Indica Snow Maiden work great in pots or containers due to their size and growth habit. The reddish new growth looks fantastic when placed in decorative pots, making it a nice statement piece. Great for small spaces such as patios and balconies.
Mass planting: When mass planted, the Rhaphiolepis Indica Snow Maiden provides a cohesive and pleasing display due to its uniform growth habit and gorgeous white flowers
SPACING:
Recommended spacing will depend on your intended use but for hedging we suggest the following;
For smaller pot sizes (140mm and 200mm) we recommend 3-4 plants per metre and for larger pot sizes (300mm and 400mm), 2-3 plants per metre. This is a guide only.
For accent planting, every 1-1.5m is ideal.
