The Port Wine Magnolia (Michelia figo) or Banana Shrub, is an evergreen shrub that has small & glossy, bright green leaves. During spring and summer it produces purple and red flowers which are quite fragrant emitting a fruity scent similar to that of bananas or vintage port. It grows into a large evergreen compact tree. In a container however it will rarely exceed 2 meters in height.
