The Canna is a beautiful tropical / subtropical perennial with a rhizomatous rootstock. The broad, flat, elongated leaves, that are a great feature of this plant, grow out of a stem in a long narrow roll. The foliage is typically solid green but some cultivars have brownish, maroon, or even variegated leaves.

They are a hardy plant and fast growing; typically they grow to about 1.5m in height once planted and range with a variety of different flowers. They enjoy a good pruning which makes way for fresh new shoots that grow back quite fast!
