With the advantage of tolerating both full sun and part shade, sasanquas are the most robust and versatile of all the camellia species and make an excellent choice for a hedge or topiary. Sasanquas are common in all styles of gardens across Australia and they are the first camellias to flower in abundance in autumn.

They bloom over a long period during the season, with a array of flower shapes and colours ranging from many shades of pink, whites, reds and sometimes even bicoloured petals depending on the variety. Heights range from 1-4m, even to 5-6 m or more with age in some instances. There are even groundcover versions of the Camellia family.
