With very unique flowers and diversity of colours and forms, Anigozanthos kangaroo paws are among the most rewarding Australian plants. They grow from an underground rhizome and produce colourful flowers on long stems mainly during spring and summer. There are many new varieties of kangaroo paws.
The best tip for the kangaroo paw is to grow it in full sun with good drainage. You can also add a small amount of organic matter to the soil to help improve growth. They do have a slightly higher demand for water during early spring and summer, which helps maintain the longevity of the flowers. Apart from this they are quite drought tolerant. Pruning is the key to keeping kangaroo paws healthy and vigorous and free from disease.
