Acmena Allyn Magic, commonly known as Allyn Magic Lilly Pilly, is a compact and attractive dwarf, evergreen shrub. Native to Australia, this plant is well-regarded for its colourful foliage and versatility in landscaping. The foliage of Acmena Allyn Magic is one of its standout features. The leaves are glossy, elliptical, and have a reddish-brown tint when they emerge, gradually maturing to a dark green. The new growth often has a bronze or reddish hue, creating a striking contrast with the older leaves. The compact size and bushy nature make it a versatile landscaping choice, suitable for various garden settings, including hedges, borders, and ornamental features.
CARE AND GROWTH:
Acmena Allyn Magic prefers full sun but can tolerate part shade. While it can tolerate a range of soil types, including sandy and loamy soils, a soil that retains some moisture is the best option. Adequate watering is crucial, especially during dry periods. While it can tolerate some drought once established, regular watering helps maintain optimal growth and appearance. The establishment period (first 12 weeks after planting) is the most important when it comes to watering. Do not let the plant dry out and increase watering on hot and windy days.
Fertilise and prune in Spring. Acmena Allyn Magic responds well to pruning, and this will ensure a nice and bushy form is maintained.
This Lilly Pilly cultivar is known for its resistance to psyllids, which can be a common issue with some other Acmena species. Its adaptability to various conditions, colourful foliage, and versatility in landscaping make it a popular choice for gardens.
